Vipers Regain Their Dominance, Though Frustrated by Draw with Maroons

It was a frustrating evening for Vipers, who missed a chance to extend their lead at the top of the table after drawing 1-1 with Maroons at home.

After a slow-burning first half, the game sprang into life in the second half when Milton Karisa put Vipers ahead only for that lead to be canceled out by a deflected shot from Darius Ojok.

Although the hosts started well, Maroons eased into the contest, and both teams created chances to win the game, but it was not to be.

Seven minutes into the second half, Richard Wasswa made three changes to the Vipers’ line-up, and this move paid dividends immediately, with Karisa scoring with his first touch off a flick by Yunus.

However, the lead only lasted for ten minutes before a mistake from Rogers Torach allowed Ojok to level the scores and snatch a point for Maroons.

The Venoms dropped crucial points in the title race but remained top of the table on goal difference, level on points with BUL, who have played the same number of matches.

Maroons, on the other hand, climbed to 6th place with 39 points but played two more games than rivals KCCA.

Vipers will hope to return to winning ways when they embark on a trip to face fellow title contenders BUL on May 1, while Maroons will have to wait a week longer before returning to action away to Gaddafi.

Wednesday’s Premier League has two significant matches in the race for the title, with Express hosting Kitara and BUL visiting NEC.
