City Oilers earned a hard-fought victory against defending champions Al Ahly in their match in the Basketball Africa League Nile Conference, winning 82-81 in Cairo, Egypt.
The win keeps the National Basketball League champions’ hope alive, with a qualification chance of 3-1 and two games still to play.
The game was intense from start to finish, with City Oilers taking a two-point lead of 23-21 after the first period, which they kept hold of in the second period, leading by three points at the end of the break.
The home side came back strong in the third quarter, limiting the Oilers to just 18 points while they scored 29.
Nevertheless, City Oilers found their footing in the final quarter, led by Khaman Maluach, who scored 27 points and pulled down 16 rebounds.
They were helped by contributions from Randy Lechard Culpepper, who ended with 20 points, and Dane Anthony Miller Jr with 14 points.
Patrick Gardner, Ehad Amin Saleh, Omar Tarek Oraby, and Tony Rasean Mitchell led the scoring for Al Ahly, scoring 19,15,13, and 11 points respectively.
