Mabedi: Malawi’s Loss to Senegal a Lesson Learned

Malawi National Football Team Coach Patrick Mabedi has expressed his determination to lead the Flames to victory in their upcoming match against Senegal, aiming to redeem their pride following a series of defeats in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

With qualification for the tournament already secured by Burkina Faso, the match holds significance for both teams, as Senegal seeks to join them while Malawi strives to improve their performance.

Mabedi emphasized the importance of the match, particularly as it coincides with Mothers Day, and expressed his belief in his players’ ability to deliver a strong performance.

To address the absence of suspended goalkeeper Brighton Munthali, Mabedi has recalled William Thole from Mighty Mukuru Wanderers. Additionally, the squad has been strengthened with the inclusion of Maxwell Paipi and Chifundo Mphasi.

Senegal’s interim coach, Pape Thiaw, acknowledged the challenges posed by playing in Malawi and expressed his team’s determination to secure a positive result.
